Morocco, Russia pledge to diversify bilateral co-operation

Rabat, Apr.11 - Morocco and Russia agreed, on Friday, to diversify and expand relations in all fields, mainly those touching on tourism, agriculture, energy, fisheries, economy, industry and education.The pledge came at the end of the 3rd session of the Moroccan-Russian intergovernmental commission for cooperation in economy, science and technology, which kicked off on Thursday under the co-chairmanship of the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Taieb Fassi Fihri, and Russian Minister of Justice, Vladimir Oustinov.The two parties decided to hold expert meetings, in the coming weeks, to follow up technical cooperation in tourism and education, and signed a cooperation agreement in the field of Justice.Stressing the need to strengthen the role of the private sector, the two parties called on the Moroccan-Russian business Council to give more impetus to bilateral trade exchange. The Russian side also expressed readiness to work towards facilitating access of Moroccan products to the Russian market and vice versa.Earlier in the day, Prime Minister, Abbas El Fassi, met Mr. Oustinov, with whom he discussed the main aspects of bilateral co-operation.Speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day meeting, Mr.Fassi Fihri had recalled that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has more than tripled between 2002 and 2007, which places Morocco among the first partners of Russia in Africa and the Arab world.Echoing him, Mr.Oustinov had stressed that bilateral economic and trade cooperation is witnessing a constant evolution as bilateral trade volume has gained 4 points, compared to 2002.
