The initiators.
This project is an initiative of the Royal Tropical Institute and media & Education productions, which have a cooperation relation in the field of educational productions.

Context of the project.
The project has been based on several researches (TNS/NIPO, Motivation, Pew Global-Washington), in which the negative feelings of autochthons with regard to. immigrants are emphasised. How lower the educational level, all the stronger the negative feelings are., Especially also based on a lack of knowledge and terms of the contexts of immigrants.

Recent anti-discrimination Council, two radar, the Rotterdamse reports under the titles discrimination have published on school, a perception research and cases and feelings of discrimination under Moroccan Rotterdammers, in which above conclusions are once more confirmed.
Statement on the European Conference or ministers or Education in the EU: European education has not reached its aims in creating respect for other cultures. In education we should place more emphasis on respect and tolerance, because good education is the keyfactor for the future. Education has to create mutual understanding to prevent children from developing the idea that all muslims are terrorist or each woman with a burka is a supporter or Osama bin Laden or the Taliban mentality (Rotterdam, July 2004)

Objective of the project.
The aim of the project is support teachers in achieving a dialogue in the classes concerning the gap between immigrants and autochthons.

By imparting knowledge and terms concerning the contexts of the migration of Moroccans to the Netherlands, the universal adaptation problems of migration phenomena and particularly offering positive perspectives it is possible to increase the cohesion of groups of young people.

Target group of the project.
The target group exists from the lowest classes of lower secondary professional education and 300 Moroccan well-being institutions, where young people are active in all kinds of areas.

Composition of the project.
The project exists from a television-programme on DVD, materials for the students/teachers and a information book concerning Morocco. (48 pag. full colour) the information book has been developed by the Royal Tropical Institute.
The whole education parcel is for free offered to all schools for lower secondary professional education and 300 Moroccan well-being institutions.

Format of the DVD / TV Program
The TV programme will have the discussion in the class stimulated, as a result of which students will conversate concerning this social topic. The concept will take a Moroccan Grandfather (1st generation) and Grandson (3e generation), which together in search of the causes and impact of the labour migration of Moroccans to the Netherlands. Several aspects of this migration come up for discussion on personal manner : the recruitment of Dutch companies in Morocco, illiteracy, necessary workers, discrimination, but especially creating chances for 3e generation.
The migration of Moroccans in an illustrative example for the universal phenomena of migration in the world.

In the television programme attention must be given to:
1. the origin area of Grandfather:
2. The recruitment of guest workers.
3. The description of the travel to the Netherlands.
4. Arrival at the Dutch company
5. Family reunification.
6. What did it mean for his children

It must become clear for students that emigrants in general are undertaking and brave people. The decision of grandfather, made it possible for his children and grandchildren to study and have extra chances in life.
This must be the implicit message for young immigrants. For autochthon students understanding of migrants and migration processes must arise.
And especially, that migration takes place over the ages and will go on for ages.

The jump in development between 1e generation guest workers and the 3rd generation children is frequently already very large. Within limited time the children of immigrants can conquer their place in the society.
