My Ramadan across the border
Published on: 19 Aug, 2008 | Author: ahmed
Since I've initiated the first Ramadan Festival in The Netherlands in 2005 (actually the first in Europe), I’ve always had the ambition to share this experience internationally (with other organizations in other countries), especially in Europe.
The Ramadan Festival has been running successfully in Holland for the past three years or so and has last year launched in Belgium (7 cities), Lausanne (Switzerland) and London (UK) with France, Morocco, Turkey and the US in the pipeline.
I am very proud to announce that Ramadan Festival is officially set up this year in two major European cities with large scale activities in London (UK) and Stavanger (Norway).
Last year, I've launched Ramadan Festival in London in cooperation with Arts Versa organization. Our intention is to extend this success to the UK by arranging a month of Arts & Intercultural events, which will highlight the diversity of British mainstream and Muslim cultural engagement that exists in the UK.
Stavanger is also a beautiful story; I've met the International House Foundation, the organisation of Ramadan Festival Norway and approached me with the idea to organize a such festival in Stavanger: Stavanger is the European capital of culture 2008.
I was honored to share my experience and expertise with these organizations and help them to get the best out of it. Since then, I worked with these wonderful teams and I am still exploring the possibilities to share the events between the different countries.. any thoughts?
The opening of Ramadan Festival Stavanger will be on the 5th of September. I hope to see you there...
