Moroccan Miloud Chaabi Donates Portion of His Wealth to Education
Published on: 23 Jun, 2008 | Author: ahmed
Miloud Chaabi, a self-made Moroccan millionaire, decided to donate 10% of his wealth to build an American university in Morocco.
University of Maryland will have a satellite campus in Morocco with the help of Miloud Chaabi, head of YENA holding. In an unprecedented move in the history of Morocco, Mr.Chaabi decided to make a philanthropist work in education, a field that has been suffering lately in Morocco. Wealthy Moroccans usually make donations, mostly in public relations stunts, in the form of lump sums to the needy.
In my opinion, education is the best gift one can give to others.
Mr. Chaabi is also known in Morocco for his alcohol-free hotel chains and retail stores Aswak Asalam.
Many business leaders should follow his path. what a man!

In my opinion, you should come back after you finish your studies abroad. For one white timberland boots reason, what you are studying is badly needed nowadays in usa. It will be quite easy for you to find a good pink timberland boots job. In fact, I know a few big companies in our city are hoping to employ people like you. For another womens timberland boots reason, I think it will be much more convenient for you to look after your parents as they are getting old.

Dear Lamiaa and Sara,
I Strongly believe that this a better education for the poor ones. We all know that the Moroccan education system has failed and we need new sights and approach. Perhaps is this one of the ways to solve millions of miseries.
Let’s hope for a better change.. and we should applaud anyone believing in that change.
What do we need more, he is creating jobs and providing people of “chaab” better education.

Ahmed

Education in Morocco

Dear Ahmed,
I do not think that we should apploud Mr. Chaabi for donating 10% of his wealth to start up an American University. Since only 1 % of the Moroccan population can afford such an education.
Morocco does not need another University for the rich it needs more and better education for all its citizens.
Teachers need better salary etc....

Sara

Dear Sara,
Perhaps you do make a point regarding that education should be less costly, maybe even free, so as to cater for all social classes in Morocco. However, I do not think that this gives you the right to completely disregard (to quote you, "do not applaud") Mr Miloud Chaabi's incredible effort to ameliorate the educative status in Morocco. This is a great improvement for Morocco and will inshAllah lay foundation for future projects of this calibre. Also, note that by opening this university, Mr Chaabi is not only creating more employment positions, but softening Morocco's present relationship with the United States.
Lamiaa
